Contemporary Art Curriculum, Supplies and Engagement for students who need it most

Contemporary art-focused year-long curriculum uniquely rooted in SEL learning strategies, Teaching for Artistic Behavior frameworks, and Visual Thinking Strategies. All lessons are based on contemporary art, and classrooms are provided with all art supplies, lesson plans, and a classroom library.

REPRESENTATION THAT REFLECTS ALL CHILDREN: Painting Pandas’ curated selection of contemporary art and literature emphasizes diverse representation, showcasing voices, ideas, and perspectives that have historically been marginalized or underrepresented.

TRANSFERRABLE BEYOND THE ART CLASSROOM: Art sparks conversations about culture, science, and the human experience, expanding connections across disciplines. Lessons develop students’ empathy, critical thinking skills, and ability to transfer learning from school to real-world environments.

RELEVANT TO STUDENTS’ LIVES: By exploring contemporary art and literature, children can better understand the complexities of today’s social and political issues and their impact on society, at a level that is appropriate to their understanding and curiosity.

BUILDING SUSTAINABLE COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS: Creating partnerships through museum field trips, library outreach, and artist residencies, the Painting Pandas curriculum establishes students' place and agency in local organizations.
