Changing Lives Youth Theatre Ensemble
Promoting healthy relationships through original plays written and performed by local teens
Our original plays spark dialogue about interpersonal violence, giving young adults the knowledge, skills, and confidence to navigate their own relationships and stand up against sexual harassment and bullying as courageous allies.
Since 2003, Changing Lives Youth Theatre Ensemble (CLYTE) has toured plays to middle schools, conferences, and community events, reaching up to 3,000 audience members per year.
Each year, a group of high school students writes a new show about relationships. Previous themes include: navigating jealousy, giving and getting consent, setting healthy boundaries, recognizing signs of emotional abuse, using nonviolent communication, and grappling with the unrealistic expectations set by social media.
CLYTE tours in March and April. Each performance includes a pre-show activity, a 35-40 minute play, and a talkback. We are happy to schedule multiple shows back-to-back in order to perform for multiple grade levels.
Auditions are open to any Austin area high school student between 14 and 18, and are held each May.
CLYTE is a collaboration between Creative Action and Expect Respect, a program of the SAFE Alliance.
