AFS creates life-changing opportunities for filmmakers, catalyzes Austin and Texas as a creative hub, and brings the community together around great film.

Founded in 1985 by filmmaker Richard Linklater, AFS creates life-changing opportunities for filmmakers, catalyzes Austin and Texas as a creative hub, and brings the community together around great film.

Below are examples of the relevant educational programs offered at our Austin Public campus.

PRODUCER PROGRAM (ages 15 and up)

“Producers” are the members of our AFS Producer Program. These are individuals ages 15 and up; living within our service area of Travis, Williamson, Caldwell, Hays and Bastrop Counties; who utilize Austin Public’s content distribution platforms that include the City of Austin’s Public Access cable channels, various streaming and video on demand services and phone applications.

Through training classes and subscription fees, a Producer may access the production resources provided at our Austin Public location, which include cameras, audio gear, lighting gear, grip gear, studios, edit space, etc.

CONTINUING EDUCATION (ages 15 and up)

The Continuing Education program at AFS offers classes and workshops to members of the community interested in expanding their professional skills in the fields of film and creative media production. These classes are open to the general public and taught by experienced instructors.

CREATIVE CAREERS (ages 18 and up)

The Creative Careers program is designed to expand access to jobs for Austin-area creatives who are looking to break into the film and television industry. The program has three pathways that meet candidates where they're at in their professional journeys: the AFS Internship Pathway (ages 18-24) and the Immersive Training pathway (18+) as well as the Continuing Education pathway (18+). By providing training, mentorship, and networking opportunities to participants, AFS is able to embed its graduates into the vibrant, creative workforce of Austin and Texas at large.
